It's a start, for sure. We already have Calin making changes to the editor, hopefully CJ will accept them back into the main trunk.It'll be easier when CJ makes the code available via a source repository, I'd imagine.As for the rest of AGS, well, that's up to CJ. Hopefully the community's actions will persuade him to open it up - even if he doesn't "get open source", as one comment on another blog somewhere else seems to think. And regardless of "getting it" or not, this is a good start, and should be encouraged.And worse case? Well, there's the beginnings for a LibreOffice-style fork, I guess. And I really hope it doesn't come to that, because a fork like that wouldn't have big backing (as LibreOffice does).
