In a white room....

There's this very famous, catchy and awesome song by Cream. Cream is a very famous classic rock band that shared some of the glory of the scene back in the 70s. And they had nothing to do with AGS, till today.

Mr. Ferri, also known as Besh, is an italian chap famous already for his MouseGestureSystem and GridInventory modules, has really killed competition by using the Irrlicht game engine combined with AGS to allow easy-made, customizable, 2.5D AGS games.

Still, haven't explained what does Cream have to do with all this..so have a look yourself, by playing the CharacterD3D plugin Demo

Visit and learn more about it, at the topic...

Lua of the temptress

Denzil Quixode tempts us with the sexy scripting language that is Lua. How, you may query? Well, he's only gone and written an editor AND runtime plugin to let you write all your data handling (since Lua is SO much better at that stuff than AGS) in Lua. Not only was Grim Fandango written with Lua but it also allows lots of puns! What more could one want? Check out the thread in the tech archive and then you'll be able to answer the question "Have you used Lua?" with something other than "Yes, sorry did I forget to flush?"

Bet you wish your GIF import was hot like this

SpacePaw has written an AGS Editor plugin that makes importing complex GIF animations a doddle. It imports sprites and creates a view and uses the GIF's timing information, too. You can read all about it on the Tech forum thread.

MMOAGS?

Super scotch has hidden away a gem of a plugin in in a new Tech forum thread about getting the old TCP/IP plugin to work with AGS 3.0. Scotch went and redid it from scratch with a whole lot more sexy interface. So if you want to create that multi-player adventure, here's your chance.

Putting Theora into practice

The Starship AGS's chief engineer, Mr Scott (or scotch as most know him) has aligned the dilithium crystals and made an Ogg Theora video player plugin for AGS. That's functionality that wintermute has and has the great advantage of not relying on any codecs being pre-installed on the player's system. Check it out!

AGX

AGX is not the X-rated version of AGS, despite being used in the pneumatic Forgotten Element. Lemmy and Binky gave us a sneak peek in the Forgotten Element thread today of their cool character in-room-position system in their Editor plugin AGX. Head over to their Game in Production thread for details.

Audio Plugin

If you've ever tried to do a voice acted game in AGS you'll know that it takes a lot of work and its very fiddly keeping track of sound files. Even if you've only use music or sound effects in AGS, you'll know that its not AGS's most friendly aspect.

Well, in AGS 3.0, there is an great editor plugin (that's a plug in for the Editor, rather than the engine, so you don't need to worry about Linux compatibility issues, etc.) which makes managing audio files much easier. You can find details in the Tech forum thread about the Audio Manager Plugin.

It's also worth noting that these fabulous editor plugins are really taking off with AGS 3.0. In 2.72 they were theoretically possible, but none of them really worked properly. In AGS 3.0, they are noe fully supported and coming into their own. Lemmy and Binky (of The Forgotten Element) are putting together an all-singing all-dancing one called AGX which will be worth looking out for, too.
