AGS server move

Mr AGA has announced that a new server will be hosting the AGS site and forums soon. We're trying to set up access for him to the blog to keep us all updated on the progress on this, but be prepared for a little downtime in mid-September.

Sock puppets

Accusations of sock puppetry fly around the forums, so its time to confess: I am Dualnames's sock puppet: I agreed to exchange being his sock puppet in exchange for the entire value of the Greek economy some years ago, which caused the current global economic crisis. But no more! I shall throw off his shackles and pay back the debt!

If you want the real story, check out the forums, but lets hope it all ends up amicably!

Boobs Need Your Help.

This a post from the forums, from a very dear friend of mine, named m0ds (lol). He's working on promoting his own game, and needs 2000$, the pledge so far has been around 1800, so he's missing very little and there are less than 20 hours left. If anyone would bother to read and spare a few dollars it would be lovely.

You can contribute to help us have it ready by early 2013 (if the target is met), and this also acts as a method to pre-order as the game is commercial... be a sexy hero of some kind, help us out!

It started as a joke idea from an early AGS discussion about adult games being made in AGS. It's been on a long journey but finally the production is moving along steadily now, enough to finally warrant a games in production thread, after a good ten years without one.

Kinky Island is an adult adventure in which you control Joey, a naive and sexually frustrated young dude - transported to a glorious tropical paradise where all his frustrations can be answered, providing he's not being distracted by it's uncanny similarities to a point and click adventure, like Flight of the Amazon Queen or something.

You may have played the demo in which case you'll remember it once looked like this:

Well now, thanks to the guys who saw an adventure game demo plea and 'Saved Kinky Island' have upgraded it in all respects to make it look more like this:

There are various thrilling places to explore on the island, including a path, a forest and a tree stump. We have however had to use some pretty mundane places like a pleasure beach, fairground and palace. See for yourself how old locations have been brought to life, and realize just how 2D the ones you've not seen yet will be when it's done:

Old gift shop

New gift shop (WIP)

We are aiming to have it ready by roughly this time next year, that gives us about a year to get it finished. Yes, there is nudity, yes, there is bad langauge - but it's not all gratuitous sex. The game is a parody on point & click adventures and is heavily inspired by games like Amazon Queen and Teen Agent. The humor is silly and quite frankly the plot is ludicrous, but it's a comedy romp that I hope will appeal to both sexes albeit MADE BY A BUNCH OF BLOKES.

Get some awesome stuff in the game

All that's left to say that as progress is made the thread will be updated, and thanks for reading and showing an interest. Much appreciate everyone who played the demo and have kept up the hype for the game. I know it has inspired me and I hope this thread will help motivate the other team members, I'm sure you'll agree they're really making something epic out of a game that could go either way... because it's bi. Bi Screen7, I'll have you know.

Lotte, who is like Trinity from the Matrix, only called Lotte, and not Trinity, cos that would be copyright infringement

LeChuck, who is like LeChuck from Monkey Island, but is actually LeChuck from Kinky Island. Please don't sue

And that about sums it up. An important answer to an important question is, yes this will cost a little bit to buy. I assure you the game will have plenty of treats for point & click fans, providing you can get over the fact there are some pixelated boobs in the game. Thank you for reading, and see you on Kinky Island! No matter how stupid and impossible that phrase may be.

New poll

For the first time in ages I've added a poll: this one is on the redesign of the AGS website and forum. Let us know your thoughts!

Monday, April 30, 2012

The new AGS website is here!

Head on over to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ and see. Some other things have been happening, too: now anything on bigbluecup.com redirects to the adventuregamestudio.co.uk site (if you don't see it, make sure refresh the browser page or clear the cache).

Also, user map is back on the forums, AGS wiki is moved to adventuregamestudio.co.uk/wiki and many other hidden gems. Don't forget to update your avatar to be the new big ones supported!

Downtime.

Dualnames, bicilotti told me to tell you (3 hours, 34 minutes and 5 seconds ago): blog about downtime

Downtime. From the beginning of mankind, servers went down for maintenance. This time however it's all qptain_nemo, Ben304 and uoou's fault.

They hacked the forums to destroy the core of a wonderful community.

That's how I feel.

The Last And Final Word

Yes, the title makes no sense, even by my low standards, but it's a very fascinating thing I discovered, thanks to Gnome. To explain myself, it's a blog/tumblr/collection of Fifty interviews from Fifty developers.

Including Ben Chandler (Ben304, you dorks!) and Shane Stevens (ProgZMax)

Speaking of fantastic stuff, forums are up.

Turn To Stone

-CHORUS-
I turn to stone
When your are gone
I turn to stone
Turn to stone
When you comin' home
I can't go on

In case you feel like listening to it as well. A great song by ELO. Kind of stuck in my head.

Oh, yeah, also the forums are down. OMG SURPRIZED FACE. I should take a picture of my surprised face. It's such a big deal!

EDIT: They just went up. What a bad timing ! ! !

A ridiculous post indeed, but I've been in a weird mood today. So yeah, take it as it is. Plus zanny posts are nice. I also promise you an interview.

Thank the HEAVENS!! The forums are back!!

YAY!!!!!

Yep, you've got it straight. The AGS forums are back online and roaring away. Looks like a problem with the flux capacitor caused the headlight oil to burn out, resulting in a johnson rod malfunction within the webserver itself.

It's a good thing CJ is such a nerd, and could diagnose and fix such a troublesome and problematic issue.

Well, don't just stand there, get over there and do some posting!

Guests will be guests.

Forums will be just down.

Guests will arrive shortly at my house, so I must write this fast and all. Well, the forums are still down, surprisingly, and well, you're probably here wondering if they are. So yes, our plan has worked.

In the meantime play some good music and browse this blog, or else.

AGS Forums are down!

Yeah, those. They are. Down.

Forums? They are down. In the meantime, nothing interesting, but feel free to join the AGS irc, that actually is up.

Server: irc.bigbluecup.com
Channel: #ags

Anyhow. Forums are down. In case. This is what happened. True story. Typo on the date, it meant 2011.

AGS Forums are a bit broken for now.

I doubt it's just me. But whenever I'm trying to access any board/topic/post I get to have a message that says Database Error. Click on the image below see it zoomed, or use ctrl + mouse wheel.

Anyhow, just letting you guys know. Well, time to play some Portal 2, then.

Down with AGS!

So, the traditional annual site and forum downtime is happening... always seems to be at Mittens time...

Forums...well?

Well, it's been bloody itching me the last few days quite a lot. Perhaps this should go on my personal blog, or on the gen-gen, but I rather have it here for reasons that don't really matter into being explained.

I've noticed that for the first time in 4 years I've been part of this community, the forums have been split. And for no reason.

-There are those who post and those who don't.

That's reasonable and it's the least thing that bugs me to be honest. However for the first time I can count the guys that post. And most of them are just the IRC guys. The IRC has grown and it's very active, but if those guys didn't post, the AGS forums would be seriously inactive for days. And that wouldn't happen the last June! I know Pumaman is terribly busy, and the times are hard...but..it just feels so weird.

-There are those who support the panel and those who think it should go down.

For those who support the panel, I think you're great guys, for those who don't, I'm seriously wondering.Would you bloody protest if you had 4 cups? or 5? And you were 100% sure you shouldn't have it? Why do you say that it's wrong getting a one man review on a game, when you a) don't protest when a site reviews your game well , b) you know that every panelist expresses his opinion when a rating is decided.

-Icey Games,Goldfish, Harg

Both of those guys would have been banned in terms of IP with half of their deeds in any forum. Why are we just expecting them to just go inactive? Goldfish went inactive, so did Harg(though some action was taken here), what's with IceyGames? Why do we let him roam and break the rules that we all know for any other member it wouldn't have taken a second thought to take some action?

-Can anybody share his opinion on what happened on August 2009?

After that month all the forum regulars have stopped posting.

These are my personal opinions, and have nothing to do with SSH, Leon and the BlueCupCritic. This is probably irrelevant to the AGS blog, but I respect its followers enough to post it.

OceanSpirit Dennis: OSD or RON?

Well, the AGS forums have had their annual share of trolls and ..yeah..anyway. Lately however icey games stroke back and this time from a joke originated from ddq and Snake, people have gone bananas, and stupid. Making 4 games so far, one concept art screen(look above, courtesy of ProgZmaX) and one fortnightly competition entry! The first game by Ben304 is even ported into an internet browser!! The topic behind it all can be found here, but i wouldn't recommend it.

So here for your sake in order of appearance:

People in goldfish bowls shouldn't throw stones

Well, if you like bile, rants and controversy, you should check out Goldfish's blog where he puts his side of the story after he was sorely oppressed by the evil AGS forum overlords for criticising the critics in the critics lounge, implying that JBurger cheated at the IGF, saying the AGS Awards were undemocratic and proclaiming that MAGS is dead because there have been two sole-entry months in a row.

Tantrum time

Well, apologies for the lack of recent posting, I'm busy moving my life around! Anyway, over on the forums the old "I don't like the score the review panel gave" debate is on again. This time, Hurg has deleted all 3 Cosmos Quest games from the AGS Games DB in reaction, although you can still get them from his site.

I had some people express to me similar anger to the lack of AGS awards for QFG2VGA, with the general thrust being that not enough or the wrong type of people voted in the awards. Well, the review panel isn't enough people for some either. Especially when their game or one they like is involved. Or maybe some people can't take criticism. People should realise that such protests don't make them look like freedom fighters but instead make them seem petty and vain.

Andail has said that an official announcement is coming soon. Let's see if it pours oil on the waters.
