Release... but don't let go! - 2
A few days ago I wrote a bit about Saw, the video game. It was about the update or 'deluxe' version as Pedro calls it. I was surprised how such thing can make your game popular all of a sudden. I monitor that by the number of hits the game gets in walkthrough visits.
The original version has been on my site from February and was visited once or twice a day. But since the update has been released, it has been around 80 average. The moral: keep working on your game and keep improving. One day you'll be famous!

I'm one of those who downloaded Saw after seeing it on your blog. Goes to show how influential this blog is! :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe the elevated popularity is due to the release of a new film in the series on which this game is based. Also, it's nearing Halloween and the horror genre usually becomes more commonly enjoyed during this time of year than others.
ReplyDeleteStill - It's an interesting idea you're proposing. Have you seen this trend materialize with other games, too?
I saw the increase before the deluxe version was announced. Since I didn't know the existence of the new version, I started playing Saw II. During that game, Pedro wrote about the updated version of the first installment.
ReplyDeleteI know that the popularity will wear off in time but the face that you can get extra exposure by updating an existing game was noteworthy.
A similar effect was when Dave Gilbert gave The Shivah away for free for two days. Not an updated version but it shows that some actions can result in an increase in popularity.
Sorry to urinate on any bonfires so close to Guy Fawkes Night, but I'm willing to bet that most of the people stumbling across your Saw Walkthrough are actually trying to find the walkthrough for the Konami game released a couple of weeks ago, rather than the AGS version, deluxe or otherwise.
